I am a psychologist based in Sydney, Australia. I love the science and art that is psychology. In the modern world, we are richer, better educated, and have better quality of life than at any other point in history. Yet, depression and anxiety are rampant and ever increasing. I love how psychology combats this. As a science, it is ever growing, refining, and expanding its body of research on human behaviour and mental processes, and as an art, it is ever assisting individuals to be best the they can be, and to live a life of purpose and meaning.
I have been blessed to work in a variety of settings, including individual and group therapy, public health, non-for-profit organisations, assessment, training, and policy development. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to work with a diverse range of people groups, from children to oldest old adults, and with diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. I draw from a range of evidenced-based practices, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Currently, I work with refugees and individuals seeking asylum within Sydney.
My past research has focused on how grit, a positive psychological trait influences both achievement based and mental health outcomes.
I have a passion for male psychology. Stigma, and reluctance to reaching out for support in Australia is still an ongoing issue for men. Males have a unique and pivotal role to play in their families, workplaces, and communities. My aim is to strive to make the practice of psychology and help seeking a normal, a meaningful strategy for men to utilise. As a result, I hope that this encourages men to reach out when necessary and foster meaningful growth.
